In 1st and 2nd grade the focus shifts to building on foundational skills developed in kindergarten.  We do basic reading and writing, simple math concepts like addition and subtraction, and introduction to more structured science and social studies topics. Students are encouraged to develop greater independence, critical thinking, and social skills.  We encourage the child to work both individually and in a group.  Each year we focus on either the old or new testament and talk about how God is working in everything we see.
